What’s in my wild camping bag

Whether you’re heading out on your first wild camp or your experienced pro, I think it’s always worth seeing what people pack in their bags. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with everything online, with content creators swearing that every brand under the sun is ‘the brand to trust’.

I’m hoping you can check out my kit list below and take something away that helps you get out, explore and feel a little more safe out in the wild.

If you’re going to buy any of this gear on Amazon, then please use the links below, and it’ll help me to make more videos and build out the website better. Thank you.

My bag: Osprey Atmos 65l

I am rocking the 65L Osprey Atmos bag. I did a lot of research at the time and I imagine there are loads of other bags out there that do a similar job. But, I find the Atmos comfortable and keeps my back from hurting.

My favourite tent: MSR Elixir 2

I’ve tested out a lot of tents over the past 4 years, but this tent is still hands down the best purchase I’ve ever made. Spacious, light enough to carry for one person. I have endless positives to the MSR.

Clothing

What I wear depends mainly on the season, but in my opinion, in the UK, there are two types of wild camps: cold camps and warm camps. I pack practically the same gear throughout autumn, winter, and spring, and I have a different bag in summer.

Warmer camps:

  • Lightweight socks x2

  • Lightweight trousers

  • Pair of sports shorts

  • Spare boxers

  • Montane hiking T-shirt

  • Rab Nexus fleece

  • Hoka trail shoes

  • Rab Lightweight down jacket

  • Rab Lightweight waterproof

Colder camps:

  • Thick Bridgedale socks x2

  • Rab base layer bottoms

  • Devold Merino base layer

  • Montane trousers

  • Spare boxers

  • Montane hiking T-shirt

  • Rab mid-weight fleece

  • Columbia Waterproof

  • Mountain Equipment heavy down jacket

  • Hat

  • Sealskin gloves

  • Merino Buff

My sleep system

After much research and wild camping for the past 5 years, I’ve nailed my sleep system to be the comfiest and warmest. I’ve used this system to sleep at -8 degrees Celcius in the Welsh mountains.

Nemo Fillo Pillow (£62) https://amzn.to/3Em0L3b

OEX Leviathon sleeping bag (£180) https://amzn.to/3EmZyZA

Big Agnes Divide Sleeping pad R-Value 4 (£140) https://amzn.to/4jIISfi

If you can find any of the above in sales or on eBay, then you can get them substantially cheaper.

My trustworthy stove

When camping, I tend to cook mainly Huel meals, which involve heating up water and adding it to a pot. To heat my water, I use the Jetboil MiniMo. It’s an all-in-one self-contained stove. You can pick them up pretty cheap on Amazon here > https://amzn.to/3EyM3pA
